A Cataract is the name given to the natural lens inside the eye when it has become cloudy or less clear in appearance. A common misconception is that the cataract is like a "film" or "skin" that has grown over the eye, and this simply is not true. In actual fact, if you are suffering from a cataract, then the lens itself has gone cloudy and this can occur due to age, trauma, diabetes, or genetics to name a few causes. You can chose to have treatment at any stage of cataract development- gone are the days where you had to wait for the cataract to be 'ripe'! In fact people with spectacles are asking for surgery earlier, even before the cataract develops, so they too can benefit from permanent, full range vision- all without specs!More about Cataracts

In fact, nearly half of those suffering from glaucoma are unaware they have the disease because it develops without any obvious symptoms. As the damage from glaucoma cannot be reversed, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment is vital to preserve your vision.
Thankfully, glaucoma management has evolved rapidly in the last five years and we now have the capability to stop and prevent any further damage to the nerve, and your sight. .

Ophthalmic Health Check
"It was the eye doctor who detected the glaucoma and saved my sight"
Having an eye test at least once every two years should be part of everyone's health care routine. Every year, 12.5 million people who need to, do not have a regular eye test. Many causes of sight loss are preventable if they are caught early - regular eye tests are the best way to do this.
Being told you have an eye condition can be an anxious time. Feelings of worry and uncertainty about the future can be hard to cope with. Accurate information on your eye condition can help at this difficult time. Please feel free to contact us to answer any questions you may have!
Our consultant ophthalmologist surgeons use the latest techniques in cosmetic eye surgery to minimise the risk of scars and to allow for a quick recovery. You will be amazed as our eyelid specialists bring out the youthful, natural you.
Most techniques are available as day case procedures using local anaesthetic.
A Pterygium is a fibrovascular, benign growth on the front surface of eye. It is thought to occur from long term sun exposure (especially if this occurred during childhood), and very occasionally causes significant visual loss.
Pterygium is usually harmless, but may cause discomfort and occasionally eyedrops may help with keeping the area moist but no eyedrop is able to remove the Pterygium.
Surgical removal is certainly possible, and effective. It is usually performed due to cosmetic reasons, or if the pterygium is causing discomfort, or disturbing vision.
Our Oculoplastic Consultants are experienced surgeons who have received specialist training in Facial Aesthetics.
With our Dermatology, Dental and Plastic Surgeons partnerships, LondonOC offers a full range of products & services, to ensure you get the result you desire and deserve.
