London’s Top Choice: Award-Winning Clinic for Exceptional Eye Care
Retina and Macula
At the London Ophthalmology Centre, our Medical Retina Experts remain at the forefront of the cutting-edge research trials undertaken each year in London.
Our ongoing commitment to the research and development of new technologies allows our Ophthalmologists and research team to skilfully handle the treatment of many retinal conditions in the best way possible.
We are able to offer surgical treatments, delivered by our experienced retinal consultants, using the latest microsurgical techniques, including high speed vitrectomy and gentle precise lasers.
In addition to our surgical options we are proud to offer a number of other treatments. See below to discover some of the retina technologies our team have developed.
AMD is the most common cause of adult blindness in the developed world. The macula is the central part of the retina at the back of the eye, and is responsible for picking up detailed visual information, such as reading words on a page, or sewing. It wears out naturally as we get older, resulting in poorer vision; whilst blue eyes and obesity also increase the risk of developing macular degeneration. Here at the LondonOC, we offer a range of treatments capable of preventing severe loss of vision, whilst improving it in some cases.
Having a regular eye health check can have your vision and help prevent many of the conditions associated with the retina and macula.
In early, less advanced AMD, visual symptoms are generally mild and may or may not impact vision-related activities. However, advanced stages of AMD can result in severe loss of sight in the central part of vision. This is often referred to as a central vision “blind spot.” This blind spot is different than the visual disturbances experienced with cataracts (clouding of the eye’s lens) and is not correctable by cataract surgery or spectacles.
Side vision, or peripheral vision, is not affected by AMD, but doesn't make up for the lost central vision.
At this time, there is no cure for End-Stage AMD and no way to reverse its effects.
All of our treatment options are all designed to slow progression, improve vision, and enhance your quality of life.
A micro-telescope implant to give better magnification and image details for patients with macular degeneration.
We offer the latest proven treatments for macular degeneration including Avastin and Lucentis. We are not able to not only preserve but also improve sight.
Our prestigious private eye clinic is based in the heart of London's world-famous Harley Street. With in-house diagnostic and treatment facilities, you won't need to look any further.
